In-Depth Articles Feature in Google
In-depth Articles: For Deeper Understanding
Whenever a search is made for a particular query one would come across a bunch of results under a category called in-depth articles. These results display content that is of high content value, these are selected by Google based on its algorithm as content that is best suited for users to get a detailed explanation on the search term they are using in Google search.
The following picture shows an example of in-depth articles results.
These results might not be displayed for websites where users will have to register in order to view the content. Normally pages cannot be crawled for websites that require registration for viewing its content. One way for these type of websites is to implement first click free feature.
First click free is a feature where a page is displayed by the Google based on the search query of a user. The user is able to see one page related to his search query but is limited to that single page. When the user tries to click on that page for any further information he is prompted to register to research any further. By allowing access to a single page without registration websites that require registration are able to have pages with high quality indexed by Google therefore allowing Google to show it on its in-depth articles results. This allows for better visibility for the website and also use its registration feature.
Recently in-depth article results experienced an outage as they were not visible for a few days. Webmasters wondered if it had been removed but in-depth results are back again with Google search results now which means it should have been a bug that caused this temporary outage and Google seemed to have fixed it allowing the in-depth articles to be listed again in its search results.
