Google Ranks Based on just HTTPS Status
This might come as a real surprise considering the factors and criteria one has to fulfill to move up the rankings and get a better authority from Google, but ever since Google started giving a small ranking boost to “https” sites one thing has been noticed that is Google gives a small ranking boost just on the basis of the url being “https.” You heard it right the url just has to be “https” to get the small ranking boost and it doesn’t matter what type of a website that is even it is insecure website.
It has been noted that Google does not even ensure that a certificate is valid or not and if the content of a webpage is insecure but it goes ahead in giving such pages a ranking boost based solely upon the page “https” status. You can be sure that many webmasters have taken advantage of this factor in recent times. It has been confirmed that HTTPS signal looks for the first five characters in a URL and it is HTTPS then it is given a search result and a minimal boost.
HTTP Vs HTTPS
It has already been stated that when there are two same urls with just the difference in HTTP and HTTPS then the url with the HTTPS is given first preference. In cases where urls with HTTP given more preference over HTTPS of the same url it could be a indexing problem as Google suggests. It appears that Google had intentions of adding a lot of factors in ranking HTTPS sites but have decided to the contrary and keeping it simple at least for the moment thereby giving the minimal boost and search result preference based in the HTTPS status alone.
